Aluminium Sulfate Free from Iron is a liquid alum coagulant which we produce by dissolving aluminium trihydrate into water and sulphuric acid. It contains more than 8.0% Al₂O₃ and has iron kept at a maximum level of 50 ppm; it satisfies the AWWA Standard B403-24 and complies with NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 at a maximum dosage of 150 mg/L. In cases where iron would cause staining, discoloration or poisoning of a process that comes after it, this is the alum that should be put into the tank.
Why iron-free matters
Standard alum contains iron as a result of the raw materials used to produce it. In the majority of municipal water clarification processes the iron is not harmful. However, in some places it is a costly factor.
- Catalyst manufacturing — iron is a catalyst poison, so alumina feedstock chemistry has to stay clean
- Pulp and paper — iron drives brightness loss and specking in the sheet
- Textile dyeing — iron shifts shade and dulls color in mordanting
- Potable water — iron contributes to color and consumer staining complaints
We limit the amount of iron to a maximum of 50 ppm and keep the water-insoluble material below 0.2 per cent, which ensures that the solution remains clear with no visible particles and keeps your feed lines clean.
Product Highlights
- Drinking water treatment — removal of suspended matter, turbidity, and color
- Municipal wastewater — coagulant and flocculant for suspended solids and phosphorus removal
- Pulp and paper — retention and drainage aid, charge neutralization, pH control, and sizing efficiency
- Lakes and ponds — phosphorus inactivation and algal bloom prevention
- Chemical and refining — catalyst manufacturing and process water clarification
Industries & Uses
Tanks may be constructed of fiberglass/epoxy, or lined steel. Polypropylene or polyethylene tanks have also been used. Schedule 80 PVC or polymer lined piping can be used. Glass reinforced plastic or hard rubber are also suitable materials for piping.
