Corrosion and Scale Inhibitors

Corrosion control, down to the molecule.

Shannon Chemicals phosphate treatment programs have helped the country's largest utilities and smallest rural systems mitigate corrosion since 1971. Now they're part of Usalco — the same chemistry, backed by our nationwide network.

The acquisition

A trusted name in Corrosion Control, now part of Usalco.

Founded in 1971, Shannon Chemical Corporation built its reputation as a leading producer of phosphates and phosphate blends for municipal drinking water — the treatment chemistry that keeps lead and copper out of drinking water.

Joining Usalco brings that specialized corrosion control expertise together with our technical resources and our nationwide manufacturing and logistics network.

Every Shannon product line and treatment program continues — backed by more scale, more service, and the same NSF-certified quality.

Prove the program at the bench.

Corrator electrochemical corrosion rate measurement puts a number on your treatment in minutes instead of months, and Corrosion Sentry keeps that measurement running continuously once your program is live. Alongside coupon studies, jar tests, and phosphate profiles, we use real corrosion-rate data to set your dose and prove the film is holding.

Common questions

Phosphates and corrosion control, answered.

Has Shannon Chemical Corporation been acquired by Usalco?

Yes. Shannon Chemical Corporation, founded in 1971 in Malvern, Pennsylvania, is now a Usalco company. Every Shannon product line and treatment program continues without interruption, backed by Usalco’s nationwide manufacturing and technical resources footprint.

Will my Shannon product, pricing, or delivery schedule change?

Your products, specifications, and delivery cadence continue as they are. The same phosphate chemistry is produced to the same NSF-certified specifications and delivered on our own fleet of company-owned tractors and trailers by Hazmat-certified drivers.

What is the difference between orthophosphate and polyphosphate?

Orthophosphate reacts with lead and copper at the pipe wall to form a dense, low-solubility protective film, which is what controls corrosion. Polyphosphate instead sequesters iron, manganese, and hardness, holding them in solution to prevent red water, staining, and scale. Blended ortho/polyphosphate does both in a single feed.

Are Usalco phosphate products certified for drinking water?

Yes. Our phosphate line is certified to ANSI/NSF/CAN Standard 60 for drinking water treatment chemicals. Every raw material is analyzed chemically to meet the strict specifications NSF sets.

Which phosphate should my system use?

That depends on your raw and finished water chemistry, your pipe materials, and your compliance targets. Our lab runs coupon studies and static jar tests on your source water, then our potable water engineers recommend the most effective, cost-efficient program.
