Polyphosphate

Back to products

Sequestration and scale control at the source.

Polyphosphates — including sodium hexametaphosphate — hold iron, manganese, and hardness in solution, preventing the red water, staining, and scale that trigger customer complaints and choke distribution capacity.

Sequestration works by binding those metals before they oxidize, so they travel through the distribution system and reach the tap clear instead of precipitating onto pipe walls, fixtures, and laundry. Groundwater and well-fed systems benefit most, particularly where seasonal iron and manganese swings make complaint volume unpredictable. Available as a liquid or as a dry product to suit your feed equipment and storage, polyphosphate also keeps distribution surfaces clean, so a corrosion-control film forms on bare pipe rather than on a layer of accumulated scale.

About Polyphosphate

Does polyphosphate control lead and copper corrosion?

Not on its own. Polyphosphate sequesters iron, manganese, and hardness to prevent red water, staining, and scale. For lead and copper compliance you need an orthophosphate fraction, either as a separate feed or as a blended ortho/polyphosphate.

What causes the red water polyphosphate prevents?

Dissolved iron and manganese oxidizing in the distribution system and precipitating out. Polyphosphate holds them in solution so they reach the tap clear instead of staining fixtures and laundry.

Is it available as a liquid and a dry product?

Yes, in liquid form and as dry sodium hexametaphosphate, depending on your feed equipment and storage.

Is this product NSF certified for drinking water?

Yes, it is certified to ANSI/NSF/CAN Standard 60 for drinking water treatment chemicals.

Was this product previously sold by Shannon Chemical?

Yes. Shannon Chemical Corporation is now a Usalco company, and this product continues to the same specification under the Usalco name.
