USALCO is North America’s exclusive distributor of GU55 Dry Sodium Aluminate. It can also be called solid or granular sodium aluminate. Dry Sodium Alumininate is provided in 25 kilogram (55 pound) bags or 2000 pound supersacks.
Granulated GU55 provides an economical source of highly reactive alumina that is used in many different types of applications, including the following:
- Oilfield: Drilling Mud and Lost Circulation Additives.
- Concrete engineering: As Cement and Concrete Additives for solidifying concrete or as part of a concrete adhesive.
- Refractory Cement Additives.
- Papermaking: As a filling agent, when used with aluminum sulfate.
- Water treatment: Reduces hardness and accelerates floc settling.
- Petrochemical: Catalysts or catalyst carrier.
- Others: textile, dye/printing, pharmacy, rubber, detergent, metal surface treatment.
Solid Sodium Aluminate is derived by dissolving alumina tri-hydrate into sodium hydroxide and water. The solution is then made solid by removing the free moisture and then granulated.
GU55 are white granules that are readily soluble in water. It is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and strongly alkaline.
In cement applications, the alkalinity helps retain moisture which ultimately increases the strength. GU55 is a well known cement setting agent or accelerant. In refractory cement, it can provide temperature and acid resistance to the cement.
