New York town seeks to upgrade wastewater treatment plant

A town in New York is set to begin a series of upgrades on its wastewater treatment plant, according to a published report.

Officials in New Baltimore, New York, said this week that they had formed a committee to craft a Request for Proposal for engineering services that are badly needed at its wastewater treatment plant. The New York Rural Water Association is assisting the town in its quest to develop the comprehensive report, The New Baltimore Daily Mail reports.

"As [Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator] Jim Polverelli has been telling us for the last couple of years we've been replacement equipment," New Baltimore supervisor Susan O'Rorke affirmed. "We have more equipment wearing out, so it seemed to be a good time to take advantage of the services that Rural Water offers us."

Experts said they hoped to secure financing to install a number of new technologies in the wastewater treatment plant, including a phosphorous removal system. Town officials are working with the organization to develop a list of badly needed upgrades. They are working to secure funding from the state to help finance the upgrades, and said they are confident they will have a comprehensive plan developed by the end of the year.
