Lost Circulation

USALCO provides liquid sodium aluminate and granular sodium aluminate (GU55) to oil field cement companies as a component for lost circulation formulations.

Lost circulation occurs in drilling for oil or gas when an underground source of water is encountered. The water dilutes the drilling mud and creates a void that eventually will require extra cement to fill. Oilfield cement is used between the borehole and the casing after the well is completed. The purpose of  oilfield cement is for stabilization of the casing and prevention of oil coming to surface from outside the casing. In lost circulation and oilfield cement sodium aluminate is used to help cure the concrete quickly. In lost circulation after the cement sets, the driller resumes drilling the well including through the newly hardened cement plug.

Sodium aluminate, liquid and granular, are used in many industrial cement applications known as cement admixtures, cement additive, concrete admixtures, and concrete additives.  The primary function of the sodium aluminate is to cure the concrete quickly in all these applications.
