Drilling Mud Additives

USALCO provides chemical additives for water based, oilfield drilling muds. We offer blending services on a proprietary basis for drilling fluid formulas.

The products provided are:

Water based drilling fluids are more environmentally friendly and do not create the disposal issues of diesel based muds. The cuttings can be dewatered more easily than removing the alternative drilling fluid made with diesel fuel. Cuttings with potassium can be disposed of on the ground where regulations prohibit sodium.

In drilling muds, granular sodium aluminate, liquid sodium aluminate, and potassium aluminate provide alumina which reacts with the minerals and clays in the cuttings and along side of the bore hole. The alkalinity also dissolves silica in situ which provides the same function. The chemical reaction between the minerals in the drill shaft and the alumina and silica form insoluble precipitates at the interface of the bore hole and the formation. This in turn helps preserve and stabilize the shaft until a casing is inserted and cemented. The cement is applied between the pipe and the newly drilled shaft.
